Baby Bennett

I (Leah) am guest blogging for my mom, since she is busy helping Brooke adjust to life with two kids. Here are some pictures.

Here is Peej in the baby's chair. He is enjoying getting attention from grandparents on both sides, and from Uncle Matt, Uncle David, and Aunt Leah... along with whichever parent isn't tending to Bennett.

Bennett's first bath at home. He doesn't look comfortable, does he?

A little blurry, but you can see his eyes and his hair.

We still can't tell who he looks like.

Peter is mostly interested in him. Last night he told Brooke, "Put baby Bennett in his bassinet and hold me." So funny.

Auburn A Day Game

The field after the game
Marlin and DeLena posed on the AU in the middle of the field
Donovan and Becky on the AU

Saturday, Donovan, Marlin, DeLena and I went to "The loveliest village of the plains" aka Auburn to see the A Day game.

Since we have an entirely new coaching staff it was a MUST to go. Even though the entire game only lasted for 1 1/2 hours and it took us about 2 1/2 hours to get there NOT including stops!

A huge plus was that we got to sit in the scholarship seats and get free food. Since a 20 oz. bottled water is $4.00, the free food and drinks was very appealing.
So, while we ate barbeque, hot dogs, popcorn, cookies, chips, brownies, salad, fruit, raw veggies and drank cokes, diet cokes, water, sweet tea, etc. we watched the Auburn Tigers play each other.

They looked pretty good. Three quarterbacks played and 2 of them completed long passes. They haven't revealed who the #1 quarterback is going to be...It's going to be a fun mystery until the first game!

The offense won the game by about 15 points or so. the extra points, punts, kick offs, etc. looked great also! The defense got points for tackling behind the line, etc.

After the game, anyone could go down on the field and get the players, coaches, etc. autographs.
It was pretty neat to go down onto the field that we usually are never allowed to set foot on.
However, after about 2 minutes of opening the gates, the field was a sea of people!
We didn't get autographs and really didn't see any "famous" players up close but we did see
some of the new coaches wives.

It was a fun day and a preview of what's to come in about 4 1/2 months! We are pretty sure that this year has to be better than last year. At least we hope so!

Keith April 17, 1981

Well, I just wrote about Leslie's birthday being on April 14th and now tomorrow is Keith's birthday. He would be 28 years old.
It is hard for me to imagine him being anything other than a beautiful, happy toddler with personality plus. After he died, I used to wonder if, when I saw him in heaven he would be 18 months old still, or an adult. After much contemplating about all of that, I finally decided that I would never know the answer on this side of heaven but the most important thing is that I WOULD recognize him.
I do remember the day that he was born. He was 6 days late which I could not believe because Brooke had been 5 days early. We had moved to Dallas around the first of March and I had unpacked, moved furniture, set up the nursery, etc., etc. I just knew with all of that activity that he would at least be on time.
Back in that day we did not know the sex of the baby ahead of time but let me tell you I was SO excited to have a boy. We already had a precious little girl, I never had a brother, and when I taught 4th grade I loved those little boys!
Keith loved different from the other children. He looked exactly like Byron. He was a little colicky at first but he was an easy baby and a sweet toddler.
He left us way too early at 18 months with meningitis, but I love having the memories of him and love it that I will see him again....and love the fact that the Lord loaned him to me for those blessed 18 months. I love you, Keith and I love the Lord for all He taught me through your life and your death! Children are a gift from the Lord; They are our blessings; The Lord's grace is sufficient in desperate times; The Lord never leaves us or forsakes us; All things work together for the good of those who are called according to His purpose. God does keep His promises; He does not promise us a life without pain but He does promise to carry us through the pain and He wants us to be victorious in spite of our circumstances. Even in death, for the Christian, it is not the end. We live forever and we have victory over death through Christ.

Pictures Added

My sweet hubby, Donovan, scanned these pictures of Uncle Don and Leslie that I added to the posts about them. Thanks, Donny! I love you!

By the way, a praise for Uncle Don! His heart is beating in rhythm once again and he was able to go home from the hospital yesterday, April 15th!

Thank you for your prayers!

Leslie

As I posted Uncle Don's Saga I realized that this is April 14th which is the day that my sister was born. She would have been 53 years old today.
She passed away in December of 1977 when she was 21 years old.

She was very blonde and had personality plus!

She was shorter than I am!

She was the life of the party, the class clown and everybody loved her!

She loved cokes with crushed ice. I used to drive her to Burger King just to get the good ice!

She loved dogs! Especially weenie dogs!

She loved her family!

I know she would have loved my kids and been a great aunt to them. They would have loved her also!

Uncle Don's Saga

My Uncle Don has always been one of the sweetest, kindest men I have ever known. He was married to my mother's sister for 50+ years before she passed away almost 2 years ago.

When I was growing up they lived just 3 houses away with their children, Sally and Drew.
When Thomas was born they moved only less than a mile away so we were close in proximity and in relationship.
He was always a great teacher and he tutored me in physics in college.

Around the first week of March he had bypass surgery. He was eager and ready to have it because he had been feeling tired and short of breath for quite awhile. He is 82 years old and had never had surgery before this.

Unfortunately, the whole ordeal has been pretty much a nightmare in that every little thing that could have possibly gone wrong HAS gone wrong. I don't want to be negative but just have to write about all of it.

First, he waited all day without food to have surgery and at 4:00 they came and told him that the surgery would have to be put off until the next day because of complications with the previous surgery. No big deal except for the hunger!

Next, after he had the surgery ( which as it turns out he had to have 6 bypasses instead of 3) and was still in recovery they noticed that he was bleeding internally so they had to open him back up and take care of that. No big deal, right?

Then, instead of getting off the oxygen that they give you after surgery in 4 hours or so, which is normal, he had oxygen for 48 hours. But, after he got off he was pretty much OK except that his throat was very sore.

While recovering in the hospital room they discovered that he had an irregular heartbeat. Not so great for someone whose heart was NOT irregular before the surgery.

He also needed to have a wound pump in one of his incisions so that fluid could drain.

He went home on March 16th with the wound pump in tow. The physical therapists, occupational therapists, wound pump changing nurses, etc. all came into his home to do their jobs and try to help him get his strength back.

During his post op visit to the Dr he had 1 liter of fluid drained from his lungs. The Dr reprimanded him for not moving around enough!

On April 4th, he developed a fever so he returned to the hospital. They discovered that he had slight pneumonia and a staff infection. ....In come the high powered antibiotics in an IV.

Meanwhile, he still has the irregular heartbeat so they shock his heart! It worked UNTIL Monday morning when he was getting ready to leave the hospital. The Doctor was in his room with his release papers when he looked at the monitor and said, "What is this?"
Irregular heartbeat again!

SOOOOO, he does not leave and the Dr gives him medicine (pills) for the heart to beat correctly. When I was there Monday afternoon he had taken 2 pills and the heartbeat was still irregular.

So, best case scenario, the medicine will work for the irreg. heartbeat and he will go home on Wednesday with another IV for 2 weeks for the staff infection.

Anyway, I am concerned about Uncle Don. He looks so tired and weary and he has had an ORDEAL to say the least.
Please pray for him!

Easter in Marbury

Marlin, Jean, Becky, Donovan
Jean, DeLena, Katelyn, MarlinIV, Marlin
DeLena, Katelyn, Marlin, Jen

Yesterday we went to Donovan's twin brother's home to take care of a few errands and celebrate Easter with them. We had a delicious lunch, a fun egg hunt...the eggs had MONEY in them..$10, $5, $1. That's a grown up egg hunt, I would say!

Marlin was there from Mercer University with his girlfriend, Jen and it was great to see him since we don't get to see him as often as we used to. He is going to be an evangelist one day and he prayed a beautiful Easter blessing for our meal.

DeLena surprised us with her new contacts! She looks so grown up with her cute haircut and her contacts! She is almost a teenager but she looks like a full fledged teen!

Katelyn was her usual beautiful, sweet and funny self! She was recently crowned PROM QUEEN! A much deserved honor! She is headed off to college next year! We will miss her at Auburn games and just miss her presence around her home when we visit!

As you can tell from the pictures, the azaleas were beautiful. It was a gorgeous day and we enjoyed being with the Marbury Harris family.

P S Donovan and I went to our wonderful Easter service at Church of the Highlands on Friday night. Hence, the blue jeans versus the Sunday clothes!

Sweet Peej

Brooke, Peej and Peter have all been a little under the weather. So, the other night Peej came into their room around 1:00 am.
Peter asked him if he wanted milk and he said, "Regular milk." As opposed to chocolate milk, like his mom.
When Peter came back with the milk
Peej said, "Aaah, aaah Daddy. Thank you. We have the best family."
So sweet!!

The Comer Reunion

The "Girls of '67 Class" Lisa, Donna, Donna, Becky
Mrs Flickinger, our Secretary
Mr. Henderson and Charla

Yesterday, I actually went to a reunion for my Elementary School, Comer. In those days, we went to school from 1st grade through 8th grade together. That's a lot of years of togetherness!
There MAY have been 1 or 2 new students in the school per year but mostly it was the same ol'
crowd. I think there may have been 45 students in my 8th grade class.
This was a reunion for ALL Comer graduates so 90% of the people there were younger than me but that was OK. It was still fun to see my old ( no pun intended) principal, the office secretary, my 8th grade teacher and several friends that were "around" my age.

Kate

These are the most recent pictures of Kate. You can definitely see her personality as well as her beauty in the pictures.
She has become quite a little phone caller. Sometimes, when we aren't here, she leaves messages claiming to be the Pizza Delivery Man. I am SURE that the only thing that gives her away is her phone number which is also left on the machine.
Thursday she called to tell Granddaddy that she had been on a field trip to a Safety City where she got to drive her own jeep through a miniature town which had stop lights, stop signs, stores, policemen, etc.
Her idea was for Granddaddy to bring her Barbie Jeep to Canada and take him to Safety City so he could see her drive! Sounds like fun! She is growing up so fast!

Peej's Phone Calls

It is so much fun to talk to Peej on the phone. He is a very clear talker and most of the time I can understand him but sometimes he puts the phone down so that he can show me something.
Then, it's a little hard to understand him.

He called today from the Dr.'s office with Brooke. She had her weekly appointment and he woke up with a cough and a fever so he could not go to school. Therefore he and Brooke patiently? waited for her appointment which usually takes too long for an 8 month pregnant woman, especially one with a 2 1/2 year old toddler.
Here is how the conversation went.
Peej, prompted by Brooke, "Hi Honey."
Me, " Hi Sweet Peej. What are you doing?"
Peej, "Mommy is your mommy."
Me, "Ha, ha, well, Peej, I am your Mommy's mommy."
Peej, " Mommy is YOUR Mommy."

I tried one more time to say that I was Brooke's mommy only to be corrected again.

Peej." Look, Honey, look at the window. Look. Do you see the ????" ( unintelligable word)
Me, "Peej, tell me about it."
Brooke," Peter, say goodbye to Honey"
Peej, "Bye Honey."
Brooke, "We will call you after I have my appointment." (which was already at least an hour late)
